Volunteer Corner

Volunteer of the Month

Meet Jeff Sanders, our volunteer of the month.

Why do you volunteer with the Martin County Historical Society?

Because the need exists.  I'm retired and it gives me something to keep occupied.  I enjoy the visitors, especially those from far away towns.

What kind of work do you do when volunteering?

I show visitors where to locate various research sources. I file obituaries, sell memberships and publications, answer the phone and do research.

What do you like best about volunteering with the Martin County Historical Society?

The very nice people I get to meet.  That I am, in some small way, helping people connect with their personal histories.

Become a Volunteer!

Need community service hours, have an interest in learning a new skill or want to help out? Volunteering may be for you!  We are a 100% volunteer organization. Our volunteers range from teenagers working on their Eagle Scout badge to retirees who enjoy spending time supporting the Historical Society.

Fast growth means lots of work to do! No matter what your skills, we can put them to use. We use volunteers for scanning artifacts into the computer, website upkeep, writing the newsletter, landscaping, cleaning the museum, organizing fundraisers and much, much more.

No matter what, we can put your talents to use. Please contact us at historical@frontier.com, call (812) 247-1133 or stop by the museum to find out how you can help. We love our volunteers!!
