Meet Alyssa Kerns, our volunteer of the month.
Why do you volunteer with the Martin County Historical Society?
People sometimes think it is strange that I volunteer with the Historical Society since my ancestors are not even from this state. I see how pasionate people are about preserving the history of Martin County, so I volunteered to help. I didn't know much about the history side of things, but I do know quite a bit about running organizations, so I put those skills to work.
What kind of work do you do when volunteering?
I am the treasurer, so I'm responsible for paying the bills and the financial side of things. I also work on the website and newsletter. I help out at events when I can. Whatever is needed.
What do you like best about volunteering with the Martin County Historical Society?
I've learned so much about Martin County history. It is amazing the things that have happened here! Mostly, I have met the nicest most dedicated people ever! We have a lot of fun together.
Need community service hours, have an interest in learning a new skill or want to help out? Volunteering may be for you! We are a 100% volunteer organization. Our volunteers range from teenagers working on their Eagle Scout badge to retirees who enjoy spending time supporting the Historical Society.
Fast growth means lots of work to do! No matter what your skills, we can put them to use. We use volunteers for scanning artifacts into the computer, website upkeep, writing the newsletter, landscaping, cleaning the museum, organizing fundraisers and much, much more.
No matter what, we can put your talents to use. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, call (812) 247-1133 or stop by the museum to find out how you can help. We love our volunteers!!
